The 26-year-old has made his name as a full-back and wing-back on the left of defence, coming through at Leicester City and earning a big move to Chelsea. The new Blues boss has seen what Chilwell brings in an attacking sense and has pushed him further forward so far this season. Chilwell still has defensive responsibilities in this new role, but he has more licence attack than ever before, deployed in more like a left-wing position, with Levi Colwill covering for him behind.

Currently on England duty, Chilwell spoke out on his new role, saying it is something he has to get used to, but he is taking it in his stride. ‘It?s something new, but the manager has put his trust in me to play there so I?m just trying to repay that trust,’ Chilwell told talkSPORT. ‘I?m still learning as I?m going, I?ve been used to playing at left wing-back and before that left-back so this is a bit higher up the pitch.

When I?m playing that high up the pitch I expect the pressure that?s on me to contribute to goals. ‘Of course that?s something that I?m going to try and work on and improve in the next few games for Chelsea, to have that goal threat, shoot instead of passing the ball.
